Corylus cornuta – Beaked Hazlenut

A multi-stemmed deciduous shrub to 10′ tall, spreading by suckers into dense clumps.

Leaves are oval, fuzzy and saw toothed, tuning yellow in fall. Edible nuts single or in clusters of 2 or 3 at ends of branches.

Found in moist, well-drained sites in open forest and rocky slopes. Native through much of the U.S. and Canada.
