Philadelphus lewisii – Mock Orange

A deciduous shrub to 9′ tall with opposite oval leaves.

Fragrant white flowers usually with 4 petals.

Found in moist rich to dry rocky sites. Best in full sun.

Crushed leaves used as soap by native peoples. Identified by the explorer, Meriwether Lewis.
